To dummy or not to dummy.....please read..and help me...

Hi..first of all: will no dummied CDs hurt my dreamcast or they only load slow as hell?

(I think that no dummied cds hurt DC...). A friend of mine gave me and 80 minute cd writter for only 71 min. Will this cd hurt my dreamcast? When i can be sure that my DC won't be damaged? how many minutes can "not be written"?

Your laser has to do more work if the cd is smaller. It is reccomended to dummy your discs to at leas 50mins but do not worry about dummying them if they are more than this.

Some emulator discs need to be smaller so son't dummy them.

Dummying will speed up the loading in most cases but some work just as fast without.

hope this helps.

your dreamcast wasn't designed to play backups,
so when in doubt don't complain and stuff and whine about will it damage this and that, all backups are to be used at your own risk,
if you're too scared of damage buy the frigging game and play that instead,
when it comes to this subject i don't give any advice because any advice is the wrong advice and you don't want to be held responsible for screwing someones dc up,

There is no need to come back with the attitude, he asked a perfectly simple question and see no reason for your quite nasty comments.

In answering the origional question, the dummy servers to make the date load faster, and is not the intention to protect the DC. The DC will quite happy read the disk if it is not dummy written. But it will take longer ,,,,, and hence any damage resulting will be a consequence of more laser use, which personally is not worth worrying about.
