Magic V or M2 or DMS3

I'm looking for a chip for PS2 v.9 or v.10. Don't wanna spend more than $100 for the chip + install. Modchip stability is most important for me.

I won't be playing MP3s or DVD's much, BUT will be playing DivX movies backed up on CDRs and backup games. Is the DMS3 worth it just for the boot from memory card feature? I hate having such annoying boot procedures to access different functions tho.

And what's with the Magic V, don't hear much about it. I'm leaning towards the M2 cuz its just pop in the game/DVD and no hassle, but then I would have to use the Virtual Reality Player CD to boot DivX movies each time. Ugh, any thoughts?

Also, which version PS2's have the built in IR? Can I use a PS2 DVD Player remote to control a DivX movie?

i would go dms3. if you need to boot divx then u just hold in square while booting and then pop in the divx cd-r and start going. any ps2 9+ has the built in ir remote!

Can I pop in the DivX CDR first before booting? Also, for DMS3 don't I have to press different buttons when I'm booting original games vs backup DVD games, as well as DVD movies? Which modchip has the fastest boot times?

Any place to get any of these cheap? I want to send the PS2 to www.norcalmods.com, but they don't carry the DMS3 and are OOS on the M2.

I have installed several 50K chips and all are working perfect. Messiah 2 is a great chip but there's alot of chips on the market that are just as good for less money.

Magic 50K’s are all I install on V9’s and I don’t see why anyone would need anything more expensive. It boots all PS2 software with a simple tap of the reset button, even protected games like Simpsons Skateboarding play perfect. PSX and DVD is also easy, hold eject, put cd in and boot. The apple pro’s I use in V7 are a little more difficult, You must hold reset and time just right for PSX backups. For a protected game, you power with eject, plus the ISO for Simpsons SB had to be patched for Apple booting or it would just Red screen instantly. I’ve heard there’s some games that don’t work with DMS and booting from card is troublesome.

I have a hacked media player that I burn with my MP3’s and DIVX video’s, it’s just 3 files you put in the root and it load in as PS2 without the MC Boot menu but it still has the language select and a couple credit splash screens you need to press X through to get the Browser. I wish someone would hack all junk out of it and make it go right to the browser, especially since they abandoned the project. If some hackers would hurry up and build a PS2DVD ISO generator tool we could build a booting DVD DIVX video disk.

I got an email from NorCalMods, he said that all 3 modchips are the same when it comes to booting backup PS2 DVDR's, no button hold is needed, just pop in and it will boot. For the Magic V and M2, you only need to hold down eject when going into PSX or DVD mode. Also, anyone know if I can use the PS2 DVD Remote to playback and control DivX movies on CDR?

the Medi player uses L2 and R2 to seak forward. this is either next track or seak on the remote I can't remember. As long as the PS2 will allow it’s remote hardware to function (it might only initiate in DVD player mode) You will be able to control most DIVX functions except zoom and pan are done with the analog sticks. I know it works with the plug in IR type remotes.

Nice, ok I think I'm going to go with the Magic V from www.norcalmods.com since I won't be using the PS2 for anything but games (save my DVD and DivX for Computer/DVD player.) What's the difference between a Magic V and Magic Pro anyhow? And a little off the topic here, anyone know any standalone DVD player that plays DivX files (in *.avi format) burned on CDR?
