Unhappy PS2 no longer reads dvd-Rs

My v5 ps2 wont read the dvd-r's that it used to read few months before.Cd-r games still load but it wont read dvd-rs. At 1st i was thinking the laser needed to be adjusted or something but now i believe I forgot how to swap the disc. I have a no-solder with GSv2. I read over the swap trick a few times but still nothing.I dont play ps2 that much so Im not going to bother with another mod chip. Thanks for any help/info.

i had the same problem with my version 3 the problem with the earlier version ps2's is that the lasers loss the capability of reading dvd-r's what you might have to do is replace the whole lens. you can do this by buying it from the-console-corner.com. sony put mine in. but i hadn't broken the seal. im guessing you already did that.

@elloco

Dont you think that cleaning the lens would be an easier and cheaper start?

When a PS2 stops reading DVD’s , at least ¾ of the time it is the WHITE PARALLAX GEAR, not the laser!

Yeah but the laser cleaner is the easiest dude. Lets just see if that "1/4" of the time percentage works here.

Anyways, I bet this guy doesnt know what your talkin about.

I do know what your talking about.I expected my ps2 to die within a few yrs anyway. Its just kinda funny that when i moved back to the states the crap wont read dvd-rs but worked fine 1 month before. Maybe my ps2 likes less hertz and cycles(115/50).GC died after coming back also. Using AC transformers with motor using electronics = bad.Maybe ill just jack that EE chip off the board and make a necklace or graft it on my rad9500pro.

I recommend using a cd/dvd lens cleaner at least once a week
it will improve the life of your laser
once all the dust starts to build up on the laser it starts to have difficulty reading the discs over a period of time the laser diode eventually goes completely
the dvd diode is the 1st to go

1st Listen to Tyler
2nd try disc cleaner
3rd try slight adjustment on white cog
4th Laser adjustment
5th New laser

Thank you fanta. What people usually dont realize about me is that I try to get people to try the more obvious and easier troubleshooters first. Then if they dont work we will have to go a little further into it.

your problem can onley be one thing you simply need to calibrate your lense tern the white weel (geer) inside your disk drive little by little intell DVD-rs start working

note to all those that posted outher things if you dont know how to fix a problem dont post your trery's and act like you know what your talking about when you dont
