can u give some more info. are they burned already? how big r the spots? are we talking really small?

I sometimes get this if there is some dust on the disc. sometimes a small particle of airborn dust/dirt gets on the disc before it is burned. then when u burn the disc the particle will prevent that spot on the disc from burning as good as the rest and it looks darker purple. is this what u mean? are u looking at it in a strong light?

yeah all u have to do is make sure there are no really large spots of dust/fluff on it. tiny ones dont matter. ive burnt games and movies with some tiny bits here and there but it doesnt seem to affect it. however, try not to get any dust on ur DVD-R (although sometimes that isnt possible when the freshy opened disc contains some!).

Ive gotten a huge blob once on a cdr. it was a verbatim metal azo which was real dark blue and u could see the spot from a mile away! when i played it everything was fine until i got to one FMV where it went spastic and this distortion that had all the colours of a rainbow took half the picture for about 1.5 seconds. It was the spot that did this no doubt about it. its like unburned in that area.

so watch out for big peices on unburned discs.

Yep. I have a few like that on mine, but no problems whatsoever. If you get grease on there though (finger tips) it's a killer. I bought some from a computer fair and the guy who packed them up put his REALLY greasy finger tip on one of the discs and it got past the opening intro and just failed everytime, so fine dust yes, big hefty grease hand print, no.

oh well that goes without saying! same if u try to blow dust off and accidentally get a bit of spit on the disc. dont laugh its very easy, just a tine bit of moisture coming out ur mouth will do it. and thats 10x worse than a bit of dust. i would leave it if its not that bad. too risky blowing it off and getting the disc with a tiny bit of spit.

i done it once on a dvd-r and the spot that it occupied was COMPLETELY unburned.

thats why discs have all those signs on them eg. dont get dust on it, dont touch it, dont leave in sunlight, dont get water on it etc etc. after a disc is burned ive never found anything like that to even phase the operation of the disc. but do that stuff before its burned and u got problems.
