Unhappy Various copy software won't read source

Hello,
I do hope someone can assist me.
I am trying to make a backup of my sons ps1 game.
I have tried various copy software like Alcohol, Clonecd, Nero, Recordnow max.

I have 2 separate computers.
Both have 2 hard drives and burners.
Both run xp pro.
NEITHER COMPUTER WILL READ THE SOURCE DISKS.
THEY STOP START AND REPORT BACK ERRORS.
I've changed IDE cables, updated firmware on cd drives, updated BIOS .....

Neither computer will read encrypted disks when using ANY copy software.

My friends computer is similarly set up but obviously the majority of the population would be the same without any problems.
The problem symptoms are that both cd writers are erratic in their reading rates… (I’ve been using my ps1 original to make a back up as the trial) however this does not work.
Most of my other friends, have copied my ps1 original without any problems.
All the various copy software I’ve tried , copy standard files fine.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated… as I’ve spent weeks trying to sort this !!
Thanks

Is it possible that your discs are dirty or scratched?

Tyler!

If your discs aren't scratched try cleaning it in warm water. Is it only this one game that has a problem?

Thanks for your prompt reply guys.
Unfortunately, I get this same problem with other ps1 disks.
I purposefully used my sons brand new ps1 original. It is perfectly clean ??
Please keep thinking !

I have a Ricoh dvd+rw mp5120a on a 2.4ghz P4 512mb asus and an older compaq p3 488mhz with a Yamaha crw2100e burner attached. (both have older cd readers also but should have nothing to do with it)
Both burners are set on auto in the bios and come up as UDMA.
(both cd roms only come up as pio or dma)
Both are set up as Secondary masters. (I've tried swapping the order of master /slave around but didn't help)
I've updated firmware on both burners.
thanks.

Sorry Monty burns,
I am not using plextor or any tools.
Each IDE port has either a cd reader and writer on it or 2 hard drives on it. (on of these is also partitioned)
Please keep trying !
