Pretty much all of them suppport at least on type of dvd backup format. I have two Toshibas and a Panasonic. They play my dvd-r without a problem. Check here to see what formats your dvd player support.

as a hi-fi installer in my spare time, I can highly recommend the Pioneer players. I've been runing a Pioneer DV-525 for over three years and i've never had a single problem with it - reliability and performance for a superb price (which was £300 at the time).
What is your budget? Do you have an external a/v amplifier or do you want on-board decoding of DTS/ Dolby Digital signals? what are you're output requirements? If you simply want playback of a homebrew dvdr or backup dvdr then any modern Pioneer will do you proud. Anyone looking to buy a player in the region of £200 I would recommend the Pioneer DV-565a. hope that helps, cheeers

I just bought a new dvd player for the same reason. I bought a JVC from Best Buy. It was $110 with a $20 rebate. It is progressive scan and has a lot of nice features. It plays all my back ups with no problem..Here is the link http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....oryId=cat03013
