Yes. How well you've taken care of a v4 matters a lot.

My v4, my brother's v4, my friend's v4... I've modded them all, twice each (once with a Neo2.5, once with an Apple) and they all run everything just fine.

Yes, I have a cendyne DVR-A05 And it runs like a dream. In fact, I just sold my dual format (*cough* Sony *cough*) So I could put one in my other computer AND have enough to buy some more Discs. Great Drives @ a great price. Also check ebay for really good deals on them too.

It's odd that you say that about the GQ DVD-RWs. Have you tried regular GQ DVD-Rs?

The reason it's weird is because I use GQ CD-Rs exclusively. They're awesome. They're super cheap ($7 for 50), have a protective covering on the top (unlike silver-topped CD-Rs, which flake off for no apparent reason), and I've had no problems with them for the year and a half that I've been using them.

Of course, DVD-R may be a whole other story, but I hope not, because the price sure is right.

Never tried their cd-r or dvd-r, never will. I use the best dvd-r media around, Ritek, and I can get 50 TDK cd-r for about $6 after rebates. I am set.

So you recommend TDK's for store bought? I know they have those here. I'll send off for some RITEK's if I have to, but it would be nice if I didn't have to go through that hassle.

And the GQ DVD-R's are junk. Wouldnt read in my weak lasered machine, or in another machine the solderer had working. OPTODISC's and this other disc read gangbusters. I heard reflectivity is a BIG thing, and these GQ's have purple underneath not silver. COMPUTER read them great, but I'm not suprised about that one.

For cd-r TDK is good. I wouldn't recommend buying their dvd-r retail though, as they cost $2-$3 a disc. Ritek are about $1.30 each.
