new ps2 with mods
i have heard from my friend at a store that the newly manufactured ps2's will have in built modifications allowing people to use DVD-r's and the like straight off. If this is true would i still need to modify my console to buy my copied ps2 games?

You can use dvd-r without a mod as systems are now, just not games. You need a mod to play backups no matter what.
