xbox problem. Any suggestions?

Well, my xbox is not broke.... yet. Whenever I turn it on, after 10 seconds or so, it smells like an electrical fire is about to occur, that wierd tranformer smell. Anyways, if I have it on for a minute or so, it gets heavier and heavier. It's bothering me and I think this is the beginning of a corrupted power supply. Has this happened to any one here and have you found a way to fix this?

Also, if I were to try and turn the power off, the fan would shutdown (and probably other items), but the xbox would still be on. I would have to go and unplug it to turn off. This really sucks. I dont want to have 2 xbox's with bad power supplies. Oh yah, my chip is off so i don't think it has anything to do with it (even though the problems accured after I installed).

i must have edited as you were replying. It does the same with different power outlets. Also I tried different power cords. The only mod I did to the xbox was the chip. I think a component on the power supply died or something.

Sure sounds like something is being burned. Are there any signs of damage? Like black spots on the board or near wires that could be shorting together? Make sure you don't mess or poke anything inside the power supply looking though!

Is the whole electrical system stock on that thing? It might have issues if you have installed extra lights or fans too.

Or maybe its a bad power switch?

I opened it up after posting and looked around. There are no burnt marks or anything like that (i compared it to my other burnt power supply). I plugged in the cord and actually saw the glow of the electricity for a second (maybe I should have plugged it in the wall second). I immediately unplugged it from the wall, waited a minute or so, then looked to see what happened. There wasn't any visual damage inside the xbox, but I looked at the prongs which the power cord attaches and noticed they were browned... That was about all the damage i can see.

Anyways, I took electric tape and wrapped up anything that was metal or exposed that the shock in the inside could have clinged to. Then when I plugged the power cord in the xbox, I jammed it in there pretty hard (this time I plugged it into the wall last). The smell is still linguring a little, but it doesn't get as heavy as it was before. So far so good. Also, when I hit the power button, everything turns off.

This is truly odd.
