Problems booting CD/R on modded PS2 with magic 3.1

i Have a PS2 with a Magic 3.1 modchip.. All the PS1 games work perfectly and load correctly. But i have tried to play some PS2 games on CD/r's and they only go to the beginning screen where is says playstation and the logo and stops there. Any help would be much appreciated

All CD-Rs or just some? Do DVDRs work if you have them?

Yeah i've tried the sims, BMX XXX, and one other game that is on CD/r from memorex and they don't work. I dont' have a DVD burner so I haven't tried PS2 DVD/R backups. Also another note. I have a 3.6 chip but i heard it was a 3.1 just with a clip and since the clip gave my problems i just soldered the chip right onto the board without the clip.

i installed a magic 3.6 clip into a v7 (customer supplied chip) but it would no boot cdrs so i removed clip and soldered all the points and still same problem so replaced magic with a judus chip and everything booted fine so i would just get rid of it and get a better chip...
