Someone tell me if I'm right...
I've been reading through the posts here regarding the Xenosaga DVD9 problem.
According to what some members imply, it seems that a PS 2 V7/Magic 2 package (SCPH 39002 PAL chipped with a Magic 2) is virtually unable to boot a Xenosaga DVD, be it original or burned (a one-in-ten success ratio might as well be nil). The problem is, I happen to own this exact PS 2 modchip package. Is there absolutely no way for me to run Xenosaga in my machine? I don't think I'd be desperate enough to buy a whole new unchipped PS 2 just to play ONE game, or replace the Magic 2 modchip in my current machine (financial reasons )Are there any other ways to boot the damn game? Please, any and all suggestions are much appreciated!

It you boot it behind a Gameshark 2 or Action Replay 2 it will boot no problem.

BTW, Bighap, since I've never used a Gameshark in my life, how do you use it to boot Xenosaga?
I know I sound like a real moron for asking, but could you give me some detailed instructions on how to go about this? ![]() I'm asking this because people usually use a gameshark for their unchipped PS 2's (for booting burned copies), and mine is already chipped--so there might be some complications here. That, and the fact that I'm using it for the specific purpose of booting a DVD9 disk (I doubt they had this particular usage in mind when they designed the gameshark 2) Thanks again!

The procedure is the same regardless if you have a mod or not. You boot it like you would any normal game using a Gameshark 2. The manual tells all.

Should be as simple as running up gameshark, hit start game, hit without codes and when it asks u for the game disc shove Xenosaga in and hit X.
Good luck my little shellfish buddy............................ There is alegedly a ripkit available for this game from kalisto, don't know if it rips onto 1dvdr,2dvdr or lots of cdr and don't know if a ripped version will boot better. Perhaps Bighap can clear things up?? Ps 4 Bighap----Ta for help with PS2Reality player issues matey..... U am D Best...............

Yeah, the rip version boots better because it's not on a dvd9.

Why not swap the Magic 2 for a Magic 3.1. Then it'll boot without the Gameshark.

Thanks for all the help Bighap, Jay Boy, Ottoman, and Charlie_ps2!
Why not swap the Magic 2 for a Magic 3.1. Then it'll boot without the Gameshark. Would if I could, Charlie_ps2 I just spent the bulk of my savings on a 5.1 home stereo a couple months back, and my wallet is still in intensive care. If I spend anymore, my account might actually hit the three-digit area. The only solution within my budget right now is a Gameshark 2. Besides the financial factor, my Magic 2 works perfectly with all the other games, so it'd be silly to get a new modchip just because of one game. And it will probably be years (even a decade) before they start using DVD9 format on many other game titles--many games still don't need that kind of data capacity (touches wooden desk, then kneels down to pray). By then, we'd probably have graduated to PS 3's ![]() Anyway, thanks again!

Hmmmm, PS3 still 3 years away ( 4 years in UK) and if this is first game u have problem with then this is first of many in my humble opinion!!
Simple answer, get a messiah 2 fitted. If u looking for cheap solution and live in uk then follow link on my signature and we'll see wot we can do.

If you are short on cash, stick with your Magic 2 and get a GS2. I personally think that Magic 2 is better than Magic 3.x

Hey there, Ottoman.
Well, a guy can wish, can't he? While I'd love to get another more reliable, versatile chip for my machine when my account fills up again, it's pretty difficult where I'm currently living (currently residing in Asia, and will probably continue to live here for quite a while. And whatever they told you about the piracy here, you'll only believe it when you see it). You see, the shops here all sell pre-modded PS 2's, and won't sell the modchips by themselves--which, in any case, I haven't the slightest idea how to install one. The worst thing is, the people at the shops don't even know what chips are installed in their machines (shop-owner told me it the chip in my PS 2 is a Magic 2, but it's probably an Apple for all I know)! Guess I'll just have to ask around the shops and see if there's anyone who'll change the chip for me at a price. All I can do now is pray to God that they won't be churning out anymore DVD9's in the meantime Thanks for the advice, man!

Hi, Bighap!
