UMMMMMMMMMMMMM.............. This a wierd one!!!#
If you have a version 3 or 4 then possibly. The version 3 and 4 have bad lasers fitted that really have to struggle to read dvd-r. If u had your chip professionally fitted and u have V.3 or 4 then yr laser might have been adjusted but have never heard of a laser trying to focus so much that it touches dvd-r!! Have heard that PS2 scratches dvd's though. U can get a tray insert that stops tray scratching your dvd's. Examine tray with a magnifying glass and then stick one of the above inserts in anyway just to be safe, then pick a gash DVD and run it to see if it still scratches. For the laser to scratch the height and Azimuth settings would really have to be at the max out settings and even then its slim. Try tray insert first and if yr laser is hitting dvd's ythen time for a new laser + professional fitting to ensure it nowhere near dvd's. Good luck, let us know what was happening!!!!

Sorry, have just read yr thread again and I see u have a 30004R, That means either a version 4 or 5. Check 2 C if u have extra screw in Expansion port which denotes a version 5!!
