Angry Still more trouble copying to HD

First of all I want to thank all that have given suggestions so far

I am trying to get GTA Vice City and Tony Hawk PS3 to my hard drive. I have tried:
Prassi Primo DVD 2.0 build 2.0.767
Record Now DX 3.01 build 100B44a (SNV)
The Px Engine has been updated with Px engine358

When I try to copy the image to HD using the methods listed in the above sticky: "Factoids Back-Up Procedures" I get the exact same error with both games "Px Engine Error (Common:28 Sense:03 ASC:11 ASCQ:05). this occurs right at the very end of the transfer procedure, but when I check there is not any .img file in the targeted location

I have also tried NERO 5.5.7.8 using the copy DVD option. this also errors out toward the end of the procedure. However I do get a 1.89 gig .temp file (out of 3.1 gig total on Tony Hawk)

I use a Pioneer DVR-103 for reading/burning.

Thanks in advance for any additional suggestions

Does this same thing happen on ALL dvd based games or just the two you mentioned?

Is your hard drive in NTFS or FAT32? If its in FAT32 that could be why. It only allows for files 2 trillion bytes large I believe, which is magically 1907.34863 megs. To make it easier some computers go one the 1000 megs=1 gig (its really 1024 megs) for file size shown. Yours may be doing this because 2 trillion bytes is 1.86 gigs. I think if you go to properties it will show you file size and size on disk. Size on disk should be the "real" size.

There are ways to convert to the other format, but they often mess up your data. You may want to get a small hard drive (like 8-10 gigs) and format it as NTFS and try that if you don't feel like reformatting everything you have.

So far I have just tried to back up these two games. I have my drive partitioned C:\ is Fat32 and D:\is NTFS. I do all of my copying to the D:\ NTFS drive.

Just a further update on my equipment. I have a Sony Viao and the Pioneer DVR-103 burner is not a "true" DVR-103. It is an OEM (Sony) version of the DVR-103. i tried to update the firmware, but the update from the Pioneer site kept giving a Kernel match error. I had to go to the Sony site to get a firmware update for this version. It is firmware version 1.8. however, I do not think that this has anything to do with my issues as the firmware update only allows the drive to recognize the newer high speed dvd-r & -rw without damaging the burner.

I will try a third game shortly to see if the same problems occur and update the post.

thx

Ok, I tried Devil may cry 2 and got the same error on disk 1. Just for lack of anything better to do I inserted disk 2 and who would have thunk it, but a perfect image copy with no errors. This is not a very good percentage. only one of four tries. does anyone know of a different method for extracting files? I'm open for suggestions.

When ever I have a problem with software, I uninstall, then reinstall.

Try removing everything. Nero, Prassi, Recordnow. Reboot. Then install only RecordNow Max 4.5. Then reinstall the pxengine update.

If you still get an error, then I've got no ideas.

Jeeezzzzeee I feel like an A-1 ignoramous. It looks as if the solution to my problem is to:
CLEAN THE FREAKING DISK

I went back to DMC2 disk1 that had the infamous "common:28 sense:03 ASC:11 ASCQ:05" error and noticed a big ol thumbprint on it. Once cleaned, the error went away,,,duh!

Now for another question. I was originally trying to create a global image (.img) file and then burn back according to procedures outlined in the above sticky, however, in frustration with all of my errors I tried to use the wizard function on RecordNow Max 4.5 to make an exact copy. This worked with no errors during record and burn process. My question is: has anobody tried this method and does it work for them? I do not have a modchip yet so I cannot verify the disk I burnt. (didn't want to invest in Modchip until I knew I could back up my games)
