a little update on my magic 3.6 situation

ok i took my ps2 apart to look at the wires i sodlered and i noticed the damn black wire the "S" wire keeps coming undone and i looked on the back where i soldered the BGA board on the opposite side and all the solder is like in one big glob all touchin each other so im gonna try to hopefully get that right and see im my crap will actually work now...see if i can get my laser spinning again. any info will be helpful

Are you using flux when you solder ?

If you aren't, that's why the connection is breaking loose. The solder is making a cold joint. Use a little flux paste on the tip of the wire, get a dab of solder on your iron tip, place the wire on the connection and touch the wire just above end (dont touch teh ps2 board with it. The flux will make the solder flow.

If you are using flux, and you know how to solder, I apologize for insulting your intelegence.

im not using flux when i solder, but i think its safe to say that i know how to solder i have sucsefully installed chips in the past with out flux but hey thats actually a good idea and thanks for the advice, im just hoping that if i do some resoldering without the sloppy ass brigdes that my ps2 laser will spin once again lol

Man you must be good to have done other boards without flux, you might end up getting some of them back soon for resoldering so be ready.
Seriously now, get some flux and you will see how much easier and how much faster you work thru those tough tiny points. You will be surprise I promise you, just don't use too much, you really only need a bit on the wires or copper points. I use a toothpick

i solder my own systems. i never used flux before and i did my psx chip about 4 years ago and my sister uses it everyday no problems at all same with my neo before i took it out. i went back and did use flux though and it did help when soldering the small ass squares for the BGA board though, still didnt help me for the ground or the s wire

I found that bga board was more of a pain than it helped. I cut the plug off and soldered the wies directy to the board.
