Decisions, decisions! Cyclone Messiah 2 clone and Magic 4??

Ok, I have just spoken to an installer. He installs Cyclone Messiah 2 clone chips. Could anyone on the forums give me some feedback on this chip? How does it compare to the original messiah 2??

He also has a Magic 4 chip. I realise these are fairly new so it may be too soon to get an overall impression of how good these chips are.

Cheers

Nothing is better than the original Messiah 2. There isn't even a so called Magic 4. I am sure he is offering these to you at a great price, but be warned, you get what you pay for. Get a real Messiah 2 from charlie_ps2 or dust2dust.

Yeah, I would rather go for an authentic Messiah 2... seems like its the most proven and recomended of all chips. But if anyone does have experience with the clone, I'd like to hear about it

Other local installers do use authentic messiah 2s. If the clone did exactly the same thing at a lower price, than they'd be no reason I shouldn't go for it.

Not sure about the Magic 4 though. Heres a link for it from HK toys:

Yeah, I have looked at their chips before. All they sell are clones. No chip that costs $10 can be any good. There is no official Magic 4. And a Magic 3.1 for $8? I think not. All garbage. If you want to be a guinea pig and take a BIG chance, then go for it, but don't be suprised if you have problems.

Lol me ain't no guinea pig!

Those prices did look ridiculously low. I wasn't gonna buy online anyway... the link was just as a reference. I'll get a local to supply and install for me. That way I can kick his/her ass if my ps2 stops working!

Jus outta interest, how much does it cost in the US and UK for Messiah 2 installations?

It is $58 for a Messiah 2 or 35 pounds UK. If you are looking to save some money and still get a great chip, go with an Apple chip. You can get one for $30 from www.modchip-sbox.com. I have an Apple which I love and I also bought it from there too. Couldn't be happier.

That's interesting...

Here (in Australia) its costs about $200 to get a messiah 2 installed! That's the equivalent to US$118 or 73 UK pounds...eeek!!... we pay heaps down under, but I guess installers a few and far between here.

The installer I spoke to actually recommended the Apple as his favorite. Have you had any problems booting any games or disc types with ur Apple, Bighap??

My Apple works perfectly. PS2 dvd originals and cd originals, PS2 backups on dvd-r, dvd-rw and cd-r, original and backup dvd movies, and my gameshark all work flawlessly. It is awesome! What version PS2 you got?

V7 PAL

I assume you use the gameshark for other purposes, not because the Apple requires it in order to work?

Gameshark isn't needed for booting games or anything. I just have it because my brother likes to cheat.

Hey Bighap, is your Apple an Apple 2 chip?

Tell me this, what are the advantages of the Messiah 2 over the Apple 2 and if there are none, then why the big price hike??!!

I have the original Apple. I don't know much about the Apple 2. I don't think anybody on this forum has one either. The reason the Messiah 2 costs more than other mod chips is because it's basically flawless. If you get a Messiah 2 you don't have to worry about problems like you do with Magic chips.

Please correct me if I'm wrong (asif I ever would be ) but I believe the apple is only compatible with ntsc versions! I havn't seen the Apple 2 so can't comment.

Here's a link to a local installers PS2 page:
http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/ps2.htm

Scroll down to see the Apple2.

Seems like it doesn't support DVD9 though, which is something to consider.
