A 1:1 copy of a CD works fine.

I'm not sure what you are trying to ask here - if the cd is unprotected, then doing a standard copy from cd to cd will work (although I don't recommend on the fly). If it is protected then this will not work - so please read the sticky topics.

You should really ask this in the PS2 forum, but I'll take a stab at it.
If the PS2 game hasn't got Libcrypt - then a straight copy is fine, but you will still need a mod chip as Playstation games can't be copied 1:1 as of yet. If it has Libcrypt - then you'll have to read the subchannel data in addition to having to use a mod chip. On the fly is an option where if the user wanted to copy the contents of a cd onto blank cd, then the read and write process would happen simultaneously rather than first read to an image file, then burn to disk. As the read and write happens at the same time, buffer underruns are likely to occur more and this does not help things at all.

99 % of ALL PS2 cd based games use LibCrypt....
It is no problem to create a 1:1 backup.....(As close to 1:1 as possible anyway) I personally use Clone CD for it....... You can also copy on the fly, BUT as everyone here has already told you, its not the best thing to do.... I have done it, but I don't rec. it.... Also, if you use ClonyXXl as Ghosth@cker has suggested, it will set your Clone CD settings for you.... And another thing.... It will still depend on your mod chip (even if you are using the above methods).... You may still have to patch etc...... I personally don't since I have the Messiah 2....
