You can't use just a standard network cable. Its needs to be a crossover cable if your going with your XBox right to your PC, and not using a hub, switch, or router.

Use straight cables. One from your XBox to the router, and another from the router to your computer.

dude
this is my setup

standard network cable plugged directley in to the xbox and the other end directley into my pc's network card (REALTEK RTL8139/810X family PCI fast ethernet NIC).
I am running with flashfxp v2.0 build 907 and evox 1.8.458.
windows xp pro sp1
no router or hub is used and it does work. i found that with this early version of evox i don't need a router or hub but with newer versions i do need a hub etc.
windows auto reconises the connection and allows the link, i don't know why it works but it does

Dude, are you sure its a straight cable? I just trid to run a straight from my XBox to my PC running XP Pro w/ SP1, and a Linksys NIC. If I remember right a cable has to be a crossover to go from NIC to NIC, no matter what OS or NIC is installed. Maybe Microsoft has got some cool software that makes the NIC think a straight is a crossover?

i am absolutley possitive it's a standard cable it's the one i got with my lan kit.
like i said iv'e tried it with several versions including the newest evox, and it would only work with v 1.8.458, this should not make a difference but it does.

this cable also works xbox to xbox for multi player games.

Do you mean the "lan kit" you bought for the XBoxes? As in the one with the XBox logo on it?
