playing dvd-r in ps2?

hi i made a few backup copies of a couple of movies i own and played them fine in my xbox but when i tried them in my ps2 it told me disk read error? im not sure which version of ps2 i have or if the ps2 even plays dvd-r?

Yes the PS2 DOES indeed read DVD-R. If you have an old model it sounds like a laser issue.

let the ps2 read a audio cd first then remove the cd and put the dvd-r movie in it.
i dont know why but it's work on my ps2(v7)

maybe it's a media issue as x-box reads cheaper dvd-r's better than the ps2

It could be the way you are burning the discs.....

Check the disc you burned and see if there is a AUDIO_TS folder on the disc....

Also, what program are you using to burn the discs....
