Sorry 2 b cold m8 but the expression 'suck it & see' comes to mind. What works for one, doesn't always work for the other (especially in this game). So, buy some sample dvdr packs from www.blankdiscshop.co.uk & test them.

If nero dont work for you with any of those discs, try the next package. When you find what works, stick with it regardless of what others say!

Well maybe i should have rephrased and explained myself a little better. I was just wondering if NERO was a good program to use. I wasnt asking about the Media. I know that different brands may or may not work. I am using Fuji DVD-Rs for my DVD backups and they are working fine for that. I do not have my chip yet. Was just wondering if nero was a good program to use. Thanks

Yeah you can use Nero but you have to know what yr doing and what sort of image to burn to the dvdr, in other words you can't just jump into hte copy wizard and expect to get a perfect copy every time. You'd be miles better off with PrimoDVD or Record Now Max which does give a perfect back-up every time.............

Good Luck!!

Recordnow MAX works best for me. No coasters yet. (knock on wood) What type of burner are you using?

I am using a Cendyne DVR-105. I burned one game with NERO and it copied fine. But i do not have a chip yet so i do not know if it works. All of the files are there and such. So should i assume that it is working properly?

Ok dumb question. Why do you guys say to copy the image to the HD first then to the disk? Why cannot copy from disk to disk, i am using a Liton DVD-ROM and a Cendyne DVD writer. Also i have treid to copy an image from the disk to HD then burned the image to disk using a DVD movie and the movie did not work that way, but worked when i copied it with DVDxCopy. I used nero and made an image, then i went to file and used the Burn image option and tried it in my DVD player and it didnt work Did i do something wrong?

Also which Recordnow MAX should i buy i see 2

This one is 49.99

Burning a dvd movie is a lot more difficult than a ps2 dvdr.

I finally make perfect dvd movie backups but the process of ripping out the subtitles, then taking languages out etc is a very long winded one. Check out tutorials on the net for burning dvd movies. There are loads out there.

Now as for the original question,

I used nero to burn ps2 dvdrs for close to a year now, and it's worked fine for me everytime regardless of if i used dvd to dvd or burned an image first.

I've recently moved to recordnow max which i'm pretty impressed with. They both do the job but for some reason recordnow max has a more professional feel to it with a few nice options to play with

As i've never used your dvd burner I can't comment on which would be the best but as hull_chipper said. what works for one doesn't work for all.

Try either program and see which works best for you. There is a tutorial by (i think it's) psx_paul at the top of this forum which covers everything for recordnow max.

Please record back and let us know which you find best for your burner. That way we can possibly advise people in the future.

Also in response to why it's better to burn an image,
ok, here we go!

Well it's very much advised to have your reader and your writer on different IDE channels.
Now consider that if you have your reader on ide 1 slave, and your writer on secondary master. If you do cd to cd (which i have done many a time) you will usually get a constant stream of data between the two.

However, windows has a tendancy (especially xp) to think the machine is idle and to go away and start doing random things (usually for efficiency) and you're reader is on the same IDE. So it interrupts the process.

Or the really simple reason is also because if you have a dirty dvd original and do dvd to dvd then you lose a dvdr!

Hope this helps,
Jay
Cheers
Jay

Well i pretty much have the DVD backup down pretty good.

I checked out the tutorial, very nice write up thanks. Recordnow Max seems like a much better program than Nero. I will probably buy it today and try it out and i will chime back in on how it worked. One problem, i do not have a Modchip yet so, i can burn the backups, but i dont know if they work in the PS2 or not, doh. Both of my drives are on the same IDE cable still because i do not have a long enough cable to seperate them since i am running a zip, the hd, and the 2 drives on a dell, and there IDE cables are "cut to fit"

Thanks once again
Dave

Well if you read the dvd game either through your dvd drive or the writer itself onto image you'l be fine.

i'm taking it your hard drive is on the same ide channel as your zip drive?

and the dvd/dvdwriter are sharing?

As for the comment about where to get the games. one of the rules of the forums is,

No asking/telling where to download pirated games

So edit that question out before a moderator see's it.

No prob, if you're going to be reading the games into a image first then your ide setup is fine.

However, if you wanna risk tryin dvd to dvd then swap your zip drive for the cdreader.

Basically if i had your set up my system would be as follows

Primary Master : Harddrive
Primary Slave : CD-Rom/DVD-Rom
Secondary Master : Dvd Writer - This is a must for best performance
Secondary Slave : Zip Drive

Hope this helps,
Jay
