warcraft III hangs after intro

Tryed a search but nothing. Warcraft III keeps hanging after the intro (black screen & mouse pointer). Tryed using the myth & razor no cd crack both the same. Ive got a voodoo 3000 video card is this the problem.

These tips apply to all Voodoo 3 users

1. Use Win98SE and avoid XP/2000. Win98SE are more compatible and the games run faster.



2. Download the "X-Gamers5" 3rd party drivers (Win9x/ME) from:

http://www.voodoofiles.com/4361

They are fully DX8.1 compatible and all current games i tested run correctly. The exception of course are 3D games that only support 32-bit but this is a limitation of the Voodoo 3 card (it only supports acceleration in 16-bit modes). XP users can also find 3rd party drivers at http://www.voodoofiles.com



3. For games that require the latest OpenGL drivers (ex. Jedi Knight Outcast) also download the demo "Wicked3D OpenGL" driver from:

http://www.wicked3d.com/technology/wickedgl.htm

Although it is a demo it works fine (it only displays a short message at startup). Take a look at the Readme files so even if your game is not currently supported you can easily add support for it!



4. Some newer games (ex. Spiderman) require T&L (Transformation & Lightning) that Voodoo 3 doesn't support. Download the freeware "3D Analyze" from:

It allows the user to disable advanced features like T&L so these games run with older video cards.



5. Go to: http://www.techspot.com/guides.shtml to get more help on how to tweak advanced features of some games to make them more compatible or run faster.

Check the Advanced settings of your 3dfx driver. Disable "Geometry Assist" in the Direct 3D section if it is enabled. If you download the X-Gamers5 driver (which i recommend) make sure that "Hardware T&L emulation" under Drect 3D section is disabled.

With these options enabled games (ex. Warcraft3, Madden 2003) that try to vsync with the refresh rate of the screen hang the system with a blank screen.
