rumours?

through reading articles i saw two interesting bits of information:

1) rare is to be bought by misro$oft (i though nintendo owned 40% of this company) and
2) sega is planning to go exclusively to one console manufacturer

can ne1 enlighten me about these or can shed more light on them?

JoyBoy is on a distinguished road
1: Is very likely true due to some internal falling out between Rare & Nintendo. Hence no games have been announced beyond Starfox Adventures.

2: Very unlikey due to the fact that Sega, at this time, cant 'afford' to back one horse in the console race.

What joint licences? As far as I'm aware Rare & Nintendo dont 'own' anything together.

two quotes:

"Nintendo has sold their 49% share in the company, and are now in talks with Rare to decide who gets what games when they split, such as the Perfect Dark, Starfox, Jet Force, Conker and Donkey Kong licenses"

"Nintendo and Rare are still haggling over licenses, and specifically whether or not Rare will be able to purchase the properties it worked on under the Nintendo brand, including Perfect Dark and other trademarks Nintendo holds. Franchises and characters created and owned by Nintendo, of course, including Donkey Kong, will remain in Nintendo's control"

just stuff i read

Nintendo owns 38% of Rare's voting rights, so for it to be sold to anyone Nintendo would have to ok it. All of that is just speculation. Read a little about it here:
