How do I use a .rar file? I am trying to make a Backup of Pandora's Box
The instructions I have found on the gamefix site are:
Pandora's Box v1.0 (ENGLISH) Fixed Executable [1.0 MB] Create the following temporary directory: TempDir : C:\TEMP\CD Copy the full contents of the original CD to TempDir. Replace the PANDORA.EXE file with the one from the archive. Burn the contents of TempDir to a CD-R and use the same CD-Label as the original CD. Play the game! It asks me to replace the .EXE file with the one from the archive. The only file there has an extension of .rar? Do I rename the .rar to a .exe, or am I working with incorrect information here? Thanks!!!! |

It's quite easy actually. A .rar file is just a different format of .zip . Go onto yahoo or whatever search-engine you use and look for a program called WinRAR. Open the file (one the program is installed) and 'unzip' it from the .rar format.

Well, I extracted the executable from the .rar. (Btw thanks guys!)
I followed those instructions, and still have not been able to execute this game. The file size of the .exe is about 2mB larger than the original. Does the game check for the file size on the disk when starting? I just get a message to insert the correct CD. Is there any settings that I could have screwed up when burning the CD? I used Nero, set up as a non multi-session disk. Any other way around this, perhaps a no-cd crack? Thanks Quote:

double click the rar file, Winrar should open. Click the "extract to" button and select the game path you installed the game to or where the original exe file exists. after you click ok you should get a message asking you if you would like to replace the original file, click OK.
Now run the game and if that don't work........ I don't know what will!!! |

I was having similiar problems with the alternative executable. I found problems when I replaced the executable via "Extract To". I found it worked when I clicked on the alternative executable within WinRAR and dragged it to the associated directory within Windows Explorer. The game now runs OK for me with the copied disc.
