The end of the rope!

I am having such a problem installing the Sims 2. I bought a legit copy, so I'm not hacking anything here. I had it installed once, but only the Sims 2 splash screen would pop up, then....NOTHING! I uninstalled it, but now when I try to reinstall, it says

"Unable to locate file" above that, it points to my autorun.exe in the temp folder.

What the heck is going on here????

(Wrong forum, moved.)

And the publisher replied nothing to your problem report and there's nothing related to this on the official support forum? Also, read the PC Games forum FAQ for some general ideas on making original games work.
