DC backups freezing

Whenever I play a DC backup, it plays fine on my machine for around an hour, and then the system freezes. If I then put another backup into the DC, it won't recognise it, but if I put one of my originals in, it plays fine. Is there anything I can do to stop this? Any help would be much appreciated.

here is a thought (correct me if i am wrong) it seems that it might be the laser stregth, do you play a lot of dreamcast, i mean is it old and when you play do you play for long lengths of time? I haven't taken a look at the hardware specs for the laser but that what it seems like. I believe that the originals are pressed which gives better pits or grooves in the gdrom so the laser sees that fine, but our recorders don't do such a good job so if your laser is a little weak then it may freeze up and not read.
I had the same problem with my origianl playstation the sled that the laser ran on was worn a little and was askew so it wouldn't read well, had to take it apart and fix patch the sled then worked fine,

anyways i think it has to do with that you can always adjust the pot on the dreamcast and see if it works (adjusting the pot has been used to read backups on cdrw's) but do it at your own risk or you can always check and see the lasers potential difference.

wouldn't increasing the strength of the laser wear it down faster?
