Need some help with ASM 'n stuff...

Well, I gotta admit I wasn't even sure if I start this, but here am I, doing it so... DUH! The thing is, I need some help with ASM n coding. Yeah, I can hear the screams "Go read sticky, tutorials, try, never give up..." yeah yeah, been there, done that. Please hear me out. I started this whole business just because a few years ago I couldn't get a crack for my Red Alert II game, and as it was expected, one day I accidentally dropped the CD and scratched it badly. I was still able to play the game, but the install files got corrupted so I was never able to install the game again. Westwood tech support told me that they'll gladly send me a clean one, if I send them my damaged copy, but I couldn't afford the postal fee to the US, so I skipped that part. I got mad and I swore an oath to myself that I will not need to find any crack ever again... I will make my own. So I went to my friends place, fired up Google(At that time I didn't had internet) and gathered as many tutorials and guides on crackig as I could get. I read them and poked around with SoftIce and WDASM, but it was terrible. The bodycount was three messed up operating systems and countless game files. I made 4 trainers though, if only with TMK, and with a weeks work I managed to crack a 20KB program's childsplay serial protection (though the tutorial said it takes only 2 mins ). I can only find tutorials with things I already know(there is a language called ASM) or with things I haven't heard before, unexplained(go find X adress, track into the process, inject code and then program it in VB or ASM that blahblahblah....).

I got so confused, I fed up. The thing is, I need somebody to explain a few things to me. I've been on other boards, but they just laughed at me(n00b lol, you don't know *that*?) I figured you guys here are more helpful than other trolling idiots out there, so I turn to you. Please, someone could help me out here? I know I noob, loser...etc, but still I want to learn the reverse engineering know-how.

Well unfortunately, it is read read and read again and try to understand it.


Things grow in complicity, you can start with something easy like a simple cd-check and work your way up.


But knowing ASM in its entirety or close to it is a great start, since you will be debugging alot, it will help to know what the hell is going on.


If you check here, look at all thread from the start, I did 3 tuts to give you the main basics of ASM and what they are etc. And a few tutorials on trainers and how to inject code etc. Worth the read.


Again read read read again until it sinks in. It wont happen over night but it will eventually happen.

This was pretty much the same here...
To be honest, I always hated people that told you things like 'Read, read and read, and after a few months everything will be clear'... but in the very end this proved to be the best thing you can do...
There is a series of tutorials about reversing, especially made for beginners, even helped me clarify a few things about the PE file format...

Hey, good luck, it will take some time, but you'll do it ! Just dont give up too soon...you can even take a break or so, 2 months doing nothing if you cant go on... it's just important you dont give up...

He wants to know how reverse engineering works and he is full of interest but I think after his 6th own crack he willl be disappointed. Cause it´s complicated, costs much time and doesn´t make u rich. .
