Burned games show as audio CD's

Hey everyone.

I just got a DC a few days ago, so consider me a newbie to this whole scene. I've got 15-20 Dreamcast CDI files from a friend of a friend a while back, and I'm reasonably sure they're self-booting (how can I check?) However, I've been unable to burn them very successfully.

Using my BenQ CD-RW drive, DiscJuggler (trial) set to:
Mode: Mode 2
TOC: CD-XA
Uncheck "Add post gap"
Check "RAW write"

I've picked up these settings from a few FAQ's and guides (mostly old) that I've found.

I burned Tetris Online (3 times, each with different settings), Capcom Vs SNK 2, and Crazy Taxi. None of these worked, except Crazy Taxi, which seemed to work fine. The rest appeared to hang on the Dreamcast logo, and then after some amount of time (I think) would enter the standard Dreamcast menu.

Today I got some new CD's and tried burning a loader (the one with the raindeer). This still didn't work. I was beginning to suspect I had one of the later Dreamcast models that doesn't read CD-R's I'd heard about, but before I gave up I decided to burn the loader again, this time with my DVD writer (still to a CD, though). This time, it worked!

However, the loader could still not run any of the games I'd burned previously. So I burned a few more with my DVD writer (Capcom vs SNK 2, Tetris, Jet Grind Radio), and none of them worked - though if I ran them on their own, the Dreamcast logo would disappear, the Sega logo would appear, and then I would enter the "playing an audio CD" area (though I could not play the CD's). I made sure I did not set Mode to "Audio" in DiscJuggler and burned Tetris again - same result.

Does anyone have any suggestions here? Is it possible I have a Dreamcast that can't read CD-R's? Or am I just doing something wrong?
