NTSC PSX Backups on PS2

Right guys i need help/advice, I`v ejust purchased a UK PS2 with mod chip fitted.. Got it home and tried to play my psx backups, UK Backups worked fine but all NTSC Backups stopped dead and did nothing.. Is there a problem booting NTSC backups on UK Ps2 if so how do i combat this so i can play them.. Even Games that have the NTSC/PAL Switch won`t boot.. Any help u can give will help me a lot..

I`ve had a quick look for a ps2 boot disc but can`t find one so i presume there isn`t one yet?

I've got a Jap NTSC PS2 and to play PS1 backups, I have to put a Jap original PS1 game in for boot up and use the swap trick to introduce the backup game (whether UK or Jap).

It'll be the same for your UK PS2; you need just one original UK PS1 game and then use the swap trick to introduce your NTSC backup.

Does this help?

To be sure, is the following true?

1 PS1 originals boot OK if you ignore the swap trick
2 The swap trick happens - you swap in the copy
3 It's the copy that fails to proceed further

If all that's true, then likely the copy is wrong. What CD copier hw/sw are you using? Do you apply patches and if so how?

I've tried to think this one through. The system should, for playing purposes, be oblivious to PAL/NTSC once you've got past the boot sequence using a PAL PS1 original. The worst that should happen with NTSC backups is a greyscale image - and that can be cured.

So what's left? Were the UK & NTSC backups created with the same software on the same equipment? i.e. there is nothing duff about the NTSC backups?

Or are you NOT booting with a PAL PS1 original before putting in your NTSC backups?

Yeah Using a PS1 Pal Original to boot PS2. Then Swapping to NTSC Copy Before The Boot logo.. Screen stays Black ??

Using the same hardware/Software to master and right the images but
it`s still not working Having 80% Success With the Patch it Program..

Some work Some Don`t .. But sometimes when i put the Pal ps1 Backups in the drive it dosen`t read them now and asks for a disc to be inserted so i have to arse arround getting that to work..

With my PS2 and modchip, the PS1 original ejects automatically (for 4 secs) during which time we insert the backup game. Does your PS2 behave like this? If not, I'd suggest that you're into a timing game for pushing the eject button. I chose my modchip carefully so that there would be a formal occasion on which to swao the CD rather than judging when to push the eject button.

Also try one copy without patching for PAL. If it works (greyscale) then suspect the patching unless one of the failed backups works on the odd occasion as you indicated; in which case Timing is my hunch.

cheers for the advice charlie, I agree that it is timing problem.
Think i`ll wait for neo 4 and get it re-chipped i think only live down the road from Playstation mods so i can nip it round and get it chipped again as soon as the new chip comes out.. Thank for the help again and Mail Me any time m8..
