Clive Barker's Undying: help needed

I've just bought a copy of Undying new through ebay, after reading rave reviews of it. But I can't install it. It asks for the security code on the back of the box, which of course I have, but when I enter it I can't put in the last symbol, which is >. It just rejects it. I'm trying on the Win98 partition, but I also tried in XP with the same result.

I contacted EA but there's so much hassle in getting a new number (and $US10) too. I don't know how to use a no-cd crack even if I could find one. The damned thing ought to work, but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Can anyone advise me? It shouldn't be that hard to enter a security code! My eternal gratitude and everlasting thanks for some help. I really want to play this.

If there is a "<" as first symbol, then i would say, enter the code without the "<" and the ">".
