Thumbs up How to put Mafia on to a DVD (This Definitely Works!)

First copy all of CD1 to a Temp folder on your hardrive. (I named my Temp folder MAFIA_DVD__)
Now all 3 CD’s have a folder called ‘MafiaGame’. Copy all the files in this folder from CD2 & CD3 to the same ‘MafiaGame’ folder that you have in the Temp folder (the one from CD1).
So now you have all the files from all 3 CD’s ‘MafiaGame’ folders in the ONE folder!
Then from CD2 you also need to copy the ‘bilboard3.BMP’, bilboard4.BMP, bilboard5.BMP, and the ‘m.exe’ files to the Temp folder. (These 4 files go into the Temp folder NOT the ‘MafiaGame’ folder!)
Then from CD3 you need to copy the ‘EAX3’ (folder) the ‘bilboard6.BMP’, ‘bilboard7.BMP’, ‘bilboard8.BMP’, the ‘DX81eng.exe’, and the ‘DX81NTeng.exe’ files to the Temp folder.

Now using any Hex Editor, (I used ‘Hex Workshop32 v423’) open the file ‘MafiaSetup.exe’ (it’s in the ‘MafiaGame’ folder) and ‘Find’ (In Hex Workshop32 go to ‘Edit’ then ‘Find’) ‘MAFIA_CD_%i’
Change ‘MAFIA_CD_%i’ to ‘MAFIA_DVD__’ (NOTE: DO NOT INCLUDE THE ‘…’)
Remember to ‘Save’ the changes!

Then add another folder for the v1.3 Update! (I named this folder ‘Update’ but name it whatever you choose!)
I also added another folder named ‘NoCD’. In this folder I put the v1.2 NoCD crack made by ‘Drunk’ (it’s available at GameCopyWorld and it works for the v1.3 Update!
Now you can call the ‘Update’ and the ‘NoCD folders whatever you like or even put all the Updates, Patches, Trainers, No Intro Patches etc all in the same folder!
Then use Nero to burn contents of the ‘Temp’ folder to a DVD using the Label MAFIA_DVD__
Now you will have a DVD that WILL install without asking for CD2 or CD3!
The only message you will receive (at the end of the install) is one asking you if you would like a Desktop Icon and if you would like to install DirectX.
Once the install finishes you can install the v1.3 Update then overwrite the ‘game.exe’ with the v1.2 ‘game.exe’ made by Drunk! (I have not tried the one made by ‘Deviance’)

Now I would like to thank 'Pipos', ‘Morglum007’, and his http://www.cdsteam.net , as this is where I got the information from about the ‘Hex Editor’. But I could not understand much else about the Mafia game fix on his site as it didn’t translate to good using ‘Babelfish’. When translated from Spanish to English it says to change ‘MAFIA_CD_%i’ to ‘MAFIA_DVD00’ (QUOTE: “replace %i (25 69) by zeros (00 00). This is thus, because almost always, in programming, the aim of a indentifica text chain with 00” END QUOTE! Sorry Morglum, I really do hope you are not offended by this as I really do appreciate your knowledge! I am not saying the info from your site is wrong, I’m only saying that Babelfish did not do a good job at translating!

I would also like to acknowledge ‘MarkRed’s thread http://fileforums.com/showthread.php...ighlight=mafia as this is where I got ‘MAFIA_DVD__’ from but unfortunately there isn’t enough info here to do it properly but it was his thread that finally made me put this together!

I have read many threads about this great game and I do believe that now all the information is here, in the one place to do it properly! I do not care who copies this, I do not care if others post this info on other forums and or their own sites but I do feel that 'Pipos', ‘Morglum007’ (and his site) and ‘MarkRed’ should be thanked accordingly! Please just enjoy this information!

Grumpy, feel free to ask. As Babelfish isn't a good translator ( and which one is good?). I can translate for u:

At CdsTeam thats is:

"Empleando el HexWorkshop (cargad el archivo MafiaSetup.exe desde él), debeis BUSCAR la cadena de texto "MAFIA_CD_%i", sin las comillas (Menú EDIT->FIND->Seleccionar String->escribir MAFIA_CD).

Veréis que os aparecerá, en el offset 0x0002046C (la posición desde el inicio del fichero).

En la columna de la derecha, donde podéis ver el texto, podéis modificar el nombre y poner, sobreescribiendo, MAFIA_DVD.

Os quedará algo así "MAFIA_DVD%i".

Translating:

" Using Hex Workshop (load Mafiasetup.exe from it), u should LOOK FOR the text string "MAFIA_CD_%i" without " (MENU/Edit/Find -> Select string, and then type MAFIA_CD).

It should appear at offset 0x0002046C (position from file start).

On the right column, where text appears, u can modify it and overwrite it to MAFIA_DVD.

Then it will look like "MAFIA_DVD%i".

For those which does not understand anything about programming, lets say that %i is a variable. In this case, it makes reference to the # of CD that should be inserted when installing. It is obvious it should be eliminated. but...warning!, correct way isn't by inserting spaces. In HexWorkshop, push the tab key, and your cursor will pass into the central column, which is a lot of decimal numbers together. The way of proceeding is by replacing %i (25 69 in hex) with zeroes ( 00 00 in hex). That is cause, in programming, the final of every text string almost always finish with 00.

Then save your modified file, replace with original one, and now u have ur mafia copy on DVD, and maybe better than if they would do it.!

Done...

I forgot something.

For those with unlimited patience ( for translating), u should look here.

This link points to the "Juegos conflictivos" ( Conflictive games) CdSTeam area.
Here it is covered most important installers: Wise (.exe), Installshield in both variants ( .msi and exclusive .cab ), windows installer (.msi) and some home made installers ( Warcraft III one ( Blizzard one (same as diablo 2 and exp), or American conquest one).

Anothers like Vietcong one are not supported yet, but will.

Almost every game have representation here, cause are almost identical.

For CD to DVD conversion with a .msi file u should look the "Teenage mutant ninja turtles" explanation. Not only DVD conversion is considered, but original and crack installation at the same time is explained too ( for those who likes addons or patchers).

It will be upgraded with more exotic installers in the future.

Greetz

Thumbs up

Gidday Morglum, I actually have tried to register at cdsteam but for some reason I can not, possibly because my Spanish is a lot worse than your English. As someone else has mentioned before "your english is getting a lot better' And I have no idea how to speak Spanish. I am also not a programmer! Now maybe I missed something in the translation. Which translating program do you use? I really do appreciated what you teach us all! I have tried to thank you and 'Pipos' correctly as without your help I would not have succeeded! Like I said, I dont think the info on your site was wrong, I just couldnt translate it properly! Thanx again. Please Please Please do not be offended as I really did want to post the whole thread to you first to get your approval. I just wasnt sure how to get in contact with you!

And @ Markred, dont be mad your English was good enough for me to work out the part I was missing, that is why I thanked you to! I was not trying to offend you! Be happy as you deserve some of the applause.

I really do want to keep everyone happy.

Grumpy

Don't worry about grumpy. There are a lot of non spanish members there (besides most does not writes or says anything).

Respecting translation, well, i do it at my own. I do not need any translator for it, and this is why sometimes i look like a Sioux....x```````````D ( sorry!)

Sometimes at cdsteam there are strange words for translators, but u can always request me for help.

Anyway, u can write in english as well in the forum section. u will not be the unique. I will guide u through till u get used there.

For registration, go to ur left at "Regístrese ahora!" (register now).
Then u should fill "Usuario" (User), "e-mail" (...), "web site" (if available)(Sitio web), "zona de tiempo" (Time's zone), "Contraseña" (Password), "Verificar contraseña" (Verify password). Then check yes to next question (about allow admin/mod to send u e-mails) and finale check in the blank with "Estoy de acuerdo con estas condiciones" ( I agree with these conditions).

Then "Enviar" (Send) and voilá. Done

And thanks again for that kindy comments.

C u!
