Problem backing up CD's

I'm trying to backup a game, just like I used to do about 2 years ago. My good old PS2 still reads the CD's I backed up back then, but for some reason, it can't read the CD's I'm trying to backup now! It makes this ticking noise then and then waits and asks me for a PS2 CD. I tried several burners, software (NERO, CLONECD, ALCOHOL 120%) and several CD types, but I am getting the same result. Maybe I'm getting forgetful in my old age and there's something I'm missing? Can you please help me out? Note again: The PS2 reads old CD's I backed up 2 years ago.

Sounds like the laser is struggling to read the cds'. Have you changed the brand of cd's you are using for backups?

Yes! but for a better brand! The old brand was an annonymous brand, while the new brand is Verbatim! I also tried Silverline. So you're saying it's the brand? How could it be that Verbatim is not a good enough brand for this?

Different strokes for different folks.. laser sensitivity varies.. maybe your laser likes junk? If it reads your old discs fine it sounds that way.. Take the original you already have of an older working backup for.. and back it up using the new media.. that'd let you know if it were the media or the newer ps2 games that were the cause.

I tried burning one of the old games on a new CD, and it didn't work. I tried burning one of the new games on the old brand, and it works like a charm.

THANKS!!!
