Question Question on Installing A Mod

I have a Magic V with the clip kit and a version 7 PS2. I'm trying to install this seemingly easy chip, but for some reason, my solder will just not stick to the parts I need it to. The solder just rolls around basically. Another thing is, what is a good soldering gun. Mine is one that can change wattage, its a Weller 300 watt max. Any help would be greatly appreciated, due to the fact I'm ready to just grab up all my stuff, including the PS2 and huck into the nearest wall.

You don’t want a bead of hot solder rolling around on your MOBO!! Do you mean the solder will not stick to the iron tip? Sounds like you need rosin core, acid, sum flux!

With a brand new tip you might need to flux it a bit to get the solder to bond on the tip. The worst thing you can do is use too much solder. You don’t want a bead falling on some part and shorting out an IC. Get you wire cut to length and prime both tips with solder before you go near the board with the iron. Prime both points with just a tiny film of solder on your tip, speck of flux with a toothpick if you need to. Knock any solder off your tip and fix the wire to your point. Piece of cake!

No, I do know what I'm doing, its just I usually use the 15 dollar soldering guns. I wanted to know if there was something different about these more expensive ones. I used to install PSX chips all the time as well as a few Xbox chips and PS2 chips. No the solder is not rolling around on the motherboard. Thanks for the help to the first responder.

Also, I forgot to ask, what do you mean by fluxing a new tip? I never had to flux any of my old 15 dollar home depot type soldering guns. This recent solder gun I bought is rather expensive and is most likely completely different from anything else I have ever used. Thanks again.

First off i would take the clip and trash it, I never liked them, Gently scraping the contact points. I pre tin my wires then lightly dip the tip in flux and stick to board. Afterward clean the contact area with alcohol and a Q-tipBTW get a cheap 15 to 25 watt iron with a small tip. If you installed chips before then you already know to be careful with the heat on the VIA's

Well, I decided to say screw that mod. Now I have one problem, my PS2 will turn on, but when I press the eject button, a loud whirring starts and it doesn't open, any help would be appreciated.
