Can't span movie over 2 discs

I've tried to follow this sites directions ( http://www.dvdr-digest.com/articles/18_4.html#split ), but when it automatically splits, disk 1 is 1.95GB n disc 2 is 3.37GB. When I add the needed files disk 2 is 5+GB.

Can anyone follow this?
I'm trying to copy the entire dvd with the ability to search through the menu title list on each disc.

I need some tips pretty bad.
I'm lost
