Re: CD backups and burning speed
Yes, using Cd-R does wear down your laser more than a regular cd or dvd but only because it has to work harder to read burnt games. But dont worry, lasers arent immortal after all, and they will eventually wear out, but hopefully not as soon as some have. And to your second question, Not to my knowledge. I dont know if there is any program that can tell how fast a cd was burnt, but I could be wrong. Check with bighap and TD, they may have some more info.

Re:cd backups and burning speed
It all depends on several things really.
1. how deep are the pits burned (basically the slower you burn it, the better the pits will be burned and the better the game will be) 2. Is the Dvd or Cd dirty, or with low reflectivity ? 3. What type of media are you using ?

I recommend Verbatim and Ritek. Both are great for burning and I have had no trouble whatsoever with either.

verbatim super or metal azo are great for ps1/2 cd backups. i use the metal azo ones sold as verbatim vinyl. many new burners are not compatible so if they dont work well use super azo. BTW, use cdspeed or kprobe to check ur burns for errors. kprobe only works with liteon drives but it gives more in depth error reports. cd speed works with all burners and cdroms dvdroms etc.
