Movie & Sound skipping, is it normal?

With the information from this board, I've successfully burned the first back up disk of Final Fantasy 8. I tested it, and found that the intro music play out perfectly, but the CG intro movie skip quite often, everything else seem to be fine.

So my question is, is it usual for the movie from the back up disk to skip like that? If not, what have I done wrong.

I used Nero 5 to burn this copy. Read and write at 1x using the same cd writer (old faithful HP8200 series max speed 4x) When copy, I shut down all program, screensaver, virus protection, firewall and disable network.

I think the cd-r i'm using is moderately good. I used cheap cd at first, but Nero won't burn it, saying "Power calibration error" or something, so I change to another brand of cd.

Anything I might have missed? Any suggestion is appriciate.

I suspect “old faithful”. I had calibration errors when my last burner was near death, after many years of good burns. Also, long burns got really sketchy near the outside of the CD, you could actually see how the burn was fading out near the end. Have a look at your CD’s recorded surface, FMV’s close to the center might be playing good while other files near the end of the CD got burned with less quality.

I also know 2 people who’ve had big problems with HP drives!!

Oh yes, and try Verbatim PREMIUM dark blue CD-R's, If your burner can't burn those babies, trash it !!

*NOT to be confused with the lighter color Super AZO Verbatims - don't bother with these!

So, I'm assuming the answer is "not normal for the movie and sound to skip."

It's gonna be hard to try out my back up disk thoroughly, it's an RPG. If the HP drive is no good, what cd-writer would you suggest. I've notebook with cd-writer but it doesn't seem to be able to burn with 1x speed. And, I don't know if I can find Verbatim cd here where I live. Gotta go look.

I've been checking some local store for CD-R. Most of them sell Princo's disks and other nameless brands. Some sell Sony's, and Fuji. Verbatim is very rare and cost twice as much. Since 'ihaveanosebleed' was very specific about the type of verbatim disk (PREMIUM dark blue), I asked the sellers about it, and noone seem to know what I was talking about.

So, I got some more questions.

1. Is Princo's, Sony's or Fuji's disks any good?
2. It seems most Princo I found has write speed of 2x-24x. Does that mean I'm not supposed to write at 1x or doesn't matter?
3. Most experienced back-uper seem to suggest CDRWin or CloneCD, does it mean NERO isn't good?

Any reply is appreciate, and thanks everyone for reading my post.

I have used princo cd-r with great results, Clone cd and Alcohol will burn 1;1 backups, use CDRWIN if patching is needed, Its not that nero is bad software just Clonecd and Alcohol makes direct 1;1 backups that do not require patching although Some games that are modchip protected still must be patched no matter what software you use.
