Audio CD won't play on computer

I have two music CDs that won't play in my CD-ROM drive. I've noticed that they have an extra data track after the audio, and I'm thinking it has to do with corrupting the TOC of the disc. At any rate, when I put the CD in the drive, the drive spins, tries to read it, can't and then just stops. When I go to the drive in explorer it says there's no media inserted in the drive. I was wondering, is there any way around this?

Could be protected cds that they have been releasing lately. How old are they?

The first CD is Immortal's "At the Heart of Winter" released in 1999 and the second CD is Enslaved's "Monumension" released in 2001. Both were released by Osmose Productions.

Any idea how to get around this?

Is it recognized by a burning prog? You could try extracting the audio tracks with cdrwin if it can see it.

No, nothing can see it, the drive can't actually read it. It reads like an empty drive. Now it does read in my discman. So what I'm wondering is, is there a program, or if not, is it theoretically possible to create a program that would force your CD-ROM drive to read a CD as a regular Audio CD Player would?

For example, if this is the problem (I'm not sure), say if it's an issue of corrupting the Table of Contents, I know that CD-ROM drives read from the outside in, assuming each TOC will point back to the previous one, I guess allowing it to read multisession discs, so if you could force it to read like a normal CD Player, from the inside TOC first, then maybe it might be able to read the CD.

Anyway, any thoughts would be appreciated.

most cds from this time period are "enhanced", if i remember correctly. sometimes they have a special data track after the audio, which contains a player with special features and other things on it. blink182's enema of the state had this.

i would try using EAC, available at www.exactaudiocopy.de , if i recall correctly. i've used it to rip over 100 cds, protections or not. audiophiles swear by it.

if this does not work - i'd search the audio forum at club.cdfreaks.com
