I have a Plextor 12\10\32 TA burner and I am using the original firmware that it was shipped with. My question is that a friend of mine told me that if I upgrade my firmware on my burner I would not be able to make back ups of copy protected cd's. Is this true? Does an upgraded version of firmware for the plextor 12\10\32 TA prevent me from making back ups of copy protected cd's? Thanks for any advice!

its always a risk.
a new firmware may prevent you from making backups or it can enable you to make (even better) backups. you might want to take a look at the changelist of that backup. if nothing is changed that you need (e.g. audio ripping improved though you dont need it) i recommend keeping your current firmware!

It is true that on one of the older Plextor models, that with an old f/w it was capable of correct EFM coding, then suddenly when the new f/w came along this capability had vanished.
I'm not sure if it was the drive you listed above, but it was certainly a Plextor drive of 16X or less.

I have a plextor 12/10/32a with firmware 1.08
I have never had problems making backups as long as I used memorex CD-Rs with the white label. Now I can't find these CD-Rs anymore and cannot make backups of games! I could even do games with safedisc2 and it worked fine... anyway, does somebody have recomendations for quality CD-Rs that would possibly work like the old memorex? |
