Okay, I'm hoping someone can help me with this... I recently moved into the States from Europe and brought with me my old faithful PSX (model SCPH-9002, 50/60 Hz) with the bundle of PAL games I have for it.
Naturally it wouldn't work in the States as it is, because the voltage is different. So I got a voltage transformer, so that part is covered. Then, of course, the video signal is PAL, which is not compatible with the NTSC TVs they have here. So I look for months and finally find a PAL-NTSC converter from chipzone.com. That's all well and good, I've got colour and everything, but the video image is so jumpy it is impossible to tell what's going on in the picture. Mind me, I am no video specialist, this is mostly rather new to me...so I finally conclude that the TV's (Toshiba 27A42) probably pushing out image at a higher refreshrate. Presumably, the source is 50 Hz and the TV is 60 Hz, in which case I suppose the convertor I have doesn't help...at all. Any suggestions as to what I can do? I've read about so called patches that you can use, but are those of any help if the problem is with the refresh rates? |

Someone will probably tell you about Import player utility, but I never found it to work on anything.
Your best bet for playing real PAL mode in America is to find an RGB Monitor. I used to have a Commodore Amiga monitor with a home made RGB cable to my PSX. Absolutely brilliant picture! I wish I still had it because I haven’t seen a PSX screen look so clear since (except ePSXe emulator on my PC) I have seen a PC monitor with component RCA inputs (separate RGBC inputs) aside from the VGA cable and I believe you can buy or at least build a PSX RGB cable. Back of PSX AV port 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 | | | | | | | | | | | | ------------------------- 01 - Ground 02 - Left Audio out 03 - Ground 04 - Right Audio out 05 - Comp. Sync 06 - Video Out 07 - C -?? 08 - Ground 09 - Blue 10 - +5v 11 - Red 12 – Green You need a monitor that accepts the RGB and Comp. Sync, Like an Amiga monitor! Have a look in some pawn shops. If I remember correctly, the Amiga monitor also needed some POT adjustments to get the whole PAL screen as will most monitors. My NTSC PSX hooked to my OLD 25” floor model will run PAL because it has the H-Hold adjustment but the 7501 PSX does not output a good PAL screen from the Video line There is red lines and green looks yellow. That is why you need to use the RGB lines. But a PAL PSX should have a decent video output As long as the NTSC TV Set does not roll. I would imagine a PAL PSX would have a messed up looking NTSC output. |
