What do I need?

I was just about to buy myself a CD writer the other day when the thought occured to me that maybe it would be better for me to get a DVD writer. Because with a DVD writer I could make back ups of both my PS2 and Xbox games.

Trouble is, I have no idea what the process is to these things. So I was wondering what someone needs to put their PS2 and Xbox games onto DVDs? My PS2 is chipped with the neo2 but my Xbox is not yet.
