Harry Potter on a Ricoh MP7200A not working!!
I'm trying to back up my son's Harry Potter PC CD ROM using a Ricoh MP7200A and Clone 3.2.3.1. after scanning the disc with Clony XL it ays that safedisc 2 is present and to use "fast Skip error" settings only, reading at 4X which I do.
When I've burnt the CD it's saying to re-insert the CD & try again. I first tried it without using Clony XL to scan the disc and I made a coaster so I've been trying it on a CDRW since I got Clony XL but I still get the error message. Is it because a) It's in the burner and on a CDRW or is it b)The wrong read settings in Clone or c)My burner doesn't burn Safedisc 2 protected CD's or d)A bit of all of them? Any help would be really appreciated TIA |

hey you should try and find the options you should tick by searching on this forum!well clony xl is now kind of old!if you can make an image without errors then you can make a working copy!here is why clony doesn't help you, when clony was released there was no amplify weak sectors option on the clone cd program ,this option is the one you should tick for making a working copy of the game.this has nothing to do with your burner or the cds!BUT there is another problem,i don't know what version of safedisk the harry poter game has so i can't be sure that this option will make a working copy!if the version is earlier than 2,5 then you will have a cd for your son,if not then you can download the patch from megagames and no more think about this!there are not any solutions for making backups of the games protected with the latest versions of safedisk...YET!!!!!

Thanks for the reply. My version of Clone CD is only just a month old but I can't seem to find the "amplify weak sector" option that I've heard about and which you refer to also.
I've no idea which version of Safedisk Harry Potter's got either, I'm only going on what Clony XL is telling me, and if it's now kinda "old", which is the best software to use for detecting protections on games? |

well curently clony xl is the best software for detecting what protection the game cd has!well there is also another detector program and it's called yaps but it doesn't give you the options for making a copy of the protected games!if you live in usa you can't choose the amplify weak sectors option so what you have to do is change your region on the control panel and reinstall the clone cd program, then you will find the option where you choose with which speed you will burn a cd,activate just link etc.

Hi there , I am from Australia and when I downloaded CloneCd it picked up my location as being in USA or Japan and disabled the Amplify weak sector option , and hide CD-R media option too . Where did it get my location from , and how do I change it ?I have a posting elsewhere about my MP 7200 not copying my late-ish games too , F1 2000 , GP 500 and FIFA 2001 will not read at all with my Ricoh burner , or another cd rom , with either clone or Nero 5.05.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First off - thanks for the tips coz I've now managed to do a back up of it - I was looking for the "amplify weak sectors" on the Read section not where it was,on the Write section, once I selected that it worked BUT,only if it was in my DVD drive - it wouldn't work in my burner (I've seen other references in this forum to this too with Safedisc 2)
Second, for our friend from Oz, if you can't read the discs in the first place, you might have a dodgy drive coz even though it gets good reviews everywhere, there does seem to be a build quality issue or something with it coz it seems to be hit and miss on whether you get a good drive or not. See here ####://www.cdrlabs.com/review.php3?reviewid=51 for a review on it where even the reviewer gets a dodgy drive to review (he still gives it an 8 or something) but then gets a new drive off Ricoh and that blows him away and he gives it a 10. I've also got a mate who had the same drive and he had to return it due to a noisy tray mechanism and "iffy" results, however the replacement works spot on, so maybe you might have another dud! good luck |

Hi guys , and to moggsy and themis , I got advice from a friend to try it again with the read speed turned down ,it read fine at 8x in 10 minutes and did the copies well . Does this point to a faulty drive if it reads better at a slower speed ? I also installed clony and found that the problem discs had safedisc. Thanks for your help , and we will see what happens with a newer game , cheers , Peter.

I don't think it means the drive's faulty - it says to read Safedisk 2 in Clony,at 4X read speed which I did with mine and it worked fine, but if yours worked at 10X read I might try that speed next time....
G'day mate :-) |
