is it possible to back up ps2 games that are dvd format on a regular cd-r and then being able to run them on pre-mod ps2?

Possible but difficult and not advised.
Firstly, a dvd game is a hell of a lot larger than a cd game and therefore would require reducing in size. This is usually done by getting rid of unnecessary stuff like title screens, video sequences ( either cutting them out or reducing in resolution) and then some heavy compression of files ( like using a ps2 version of winrar to compress ). Also the boot and handshake sectors would require editing as they r completely different for ps2 cd and dvd games. And finally to get it to run on an unmodded ps2 would require a specific routine using various techniques like the 'cog and knife ' method which usually end up damaging your ps2 in the long run and are also usually long winded and work about 25% of the time. Sorry, just read yr thread again, thought u said unmodded.
Yeah, if u could do what I stated previously then u could get it to run on a pre modded ps2. Why u ask?
