Painfully Slow FTP Transfer From the XBox DVD

Takes me just about all day to transfer the files off of my original NHL 2003 disc (or any of my original games) onto my PC's hard drive ... What gives? Is my NIC screwing up in the XBox? Or is the DVD transfer rate just that SLOW?

1) What FTP program are you using. FlashFXP is the best i think.

2) Have you tried any other games other than the one you mentioned, as certain games take longer than others which i 've found.

3) What sort of set up to you have?

On my Setup i have a crossover cable going from my PC's NIC to the Xbox. I normally achieve around 4.654Kbs up to 5000Kbs PC to Xbox upload and around 1.657Kbs up to 3.657Kbs Xbox to PC download. I myself is happy of what speeds i get. However, you can get faster results so i've heard. But a full game over 4Gb normally takes me about 20 minutes which i don't mind.

I'm using CuteFTP

Here are the rigs:

Linksys Router (BEFSRU31) 10/100
Linksys Workgroup Hub 10/100
Linksys NIC in the PC 10/100

Straight through cables for all.

I'm getting around 120KB/sec doing it this way. Of course it fluctuates somewhat. Seems that the larger files take considerably more time (duh! They're bigger) but the speed DEcreases dramatically (down to 34KB/sec sometimes).

When I transfer files from the PC HDD to the XBox HDD it RIPS! Less than 10 mins for a FULL GAME. I started to copy the files from NHL 2003 at around 3:00PM EST, and I'll let you know when it is complete (in a later thread).

Make sure you dont have other network traffic going through the hub at the same time.

I've also heard that running DHCP on the router slows things down a lot so you could try connecting directly from comp to Xbox.

interesting theory but it's complete boll***s.

i now have 3 chipped xbox's and have just fitted 2 of them with 120 gb hard drives. the third still has the 8 gb standard hd.

the two i put new hd's in to i have had for over 6 months (one of them from launch actually) and have matrix chips inside .The third i got about 4 weeks ago and has a x-ecuter v 1.0 chip.

i have them all connected to 2 different pc's. connected directley using crossover cables.
one running xp pro 1.2 gb athlon duron 512 mb ram and 2x 120 maxon hd/ the other running ME 900 mb athlon duron 128mb ram 2x 120 gb maxon hd. i am using REALTEK RTL8139/810X FAMILY PCI FAST ETHERNET NIC cards ( got a pack of 5 from pc world for £30.00 they were last of that stock line so sold for cheap) along with flashfxp v2.0 build 908.

xbox1 runs evox 1.8.458
xbox2 runs evox 1.8.3285
xbox3 runs evox 1.8.3752

i always get a transfere speed between 4.500 and 6.500 kbs and rarley if at all get connection drop outs.

Do you have to change any of the flash fxp settings from default to get a faster transfer rate from x-box to pc as i get a slow 1mb/sec and can take 1hr 30 mins for a large game.

the most consistent and fastest method for me is either xgman or windows explorer on a number of xbox machines. Also, you must have the latest internet explorer installed on your PC.

pc to xbox --> 5 to 7mbyte/sec

xbox to pc --> 6 to 9mbyte/sec

These are peak sustained speed for large files.
