Hi all. I have a quick question.
I bought raven shield today (sat 22nd) but this game was released in the UK on the 21st. I have seen the crack here @ GCW some time before then and i was wondering is this because us in the UK get the games after other places ? (i know its a simple question but some times i see people request help with a game and they get a replie like "this game isnt released yet" witch leads me to belive they must have a warez copy or a beta version). thanks

Sometimes the UK will get the game later - but that's not why the cracks are out pre-release.
The warez groups usually get their hands on a copy before it's released from one of their contacts - they then crack it and release it. The crack makes it way to GCW eventually - all this before the general public gets to buy the game.

Its a fine example of the software industries paranoia of changing their distributing business model. They'd rather you got the game weeks or even months later and have you foot the bill for the latest greatest copy protection. And try to give you next to zero technical support.
Meanwhile the warez groups have released the game to the whole world. Which leads the software industry to cry 'woe is me' and hire government thugs to find people to make an example of. They really need to wake up and stop lining each others pockets keeping status quo. Serial numbers have been the most effective copy protection, especially now that people demand to be able to play games online multiplayer. Stardock/Strategyfirst have gotten a clue and have decided it was in everyones best interest to make the Galactic Civilization game downloadable besides available for purchase in stores. They just charge for a serial number. Imagine that, multiple middlemen cut out, no CD protection costs, no CD protection tech support calls, no CD production costs/wastes. You lost the game or missing a file? Download the game again. BTW Galactic Civilization is suppose to be better than MOO3. www.galciv.com |

Maybe it's because copy protection is an 'easy sell' for the corporate drones of the big publishers. If you're not too smart (like the top brass of EA
), the sales pitch of Cdilla seems like a heaven sent. If only they knew how 'effective' it really is. But then again, that would involve getting their heads out of their asses once in a while.
