xbox to pc connection problems

ok....my pc is connected to my dsl router and my xbox is connected to my pc via a ethernet card and a rj 45 cable sense my dsl router has for only one opening in the back. but i dont see any green blinking on the ethernet card to confirm any activity going on. my xbox has been chipped and all of the drivers for the ethernet card are properly installed and the device says thats its working properly. so how do i go about to fix this problem? plus i dont know if my router has giving my xbox a ip address. any thoughts?

i didnt think i would have to do that sense my dsl router acts like a DHCP server which give my xbox a different ip address everytime so i didn think that would be the issue..but if it is then i will have give both my pc and xbox a static ip address.

If you are connecting your Xbox from you PC card to the Xbox with no hub inbetween then you will need a crossover cabel

yep - you will need a crossover cable if you link the box directly to your pc - forget the router...
ah and use static ip

my router only has one slot for the rj45 cable. i didnt mind at first but now sense i have a modded xbox i needed that extra port for another rj45 cable. so i had to buy another NIC card and installed it in my pc and ran a cable from my pc to the xbox using that NIC card.

Do you need high speed internet to do this? Because Ive tried this and the FTP seems to try and access the internet and not the XBOX. I have an XBOX crossover cable and I have done the nessesary changes to the IP address (on both XBOX and PC) but it always fails. What about Xboxplorer? Does anyone know where to get this?

frequency, what you should so is:
Go and buy a cheap 4 port switch. It will have one uplink, and four data ports on it. Connect your router to the uplink on the switch. Then connect your PC and XBox to the data ports on the switch.

This will be cheaper then buying a new router, and a hell of a lot better then a hub.

I use a Belkin wireless roter and wireless adapter to connect to my XBox, works gret.
