point A on messiah 2 mod fit

can any body tell me if point A on the mainboard for messiah 2 install has any thing to do with the lazer (DVD side)

my friend has just installed messiah 2 mod in V7 ps2 8 weeks old
he had problems from the off playing ps2 dvd dvdr but cd cdr play perfectly

asked me to have a look at it and the only fault i could find was point A on the mainboard was on the wrong side of the ressistor, repositioned and retried still ng

then cleaned his lens still did not made any difference
on further testing i also found that dvd films are not working also any cd cdr media work every time perfectly in psx & ps2 mode

this is leading me to think point A has something to do with the lazer in some way
can any body clear this up for me, and has he blown any thing or will lazer callibration rectify this

If I am not mistaken the square chip on the motherboard is the CD\DVD crontroller. My guess from the sound of it would be a problem there. Hopefully someone more experienced will come alomg with more info.

thanks for your reply

i seem to think the ressistor that you solder onto (point A) sends some sort of signal to the cd/dvd controler
as i said earlyer this is the only mistake he made in chipping his station
i have had a realy good look around the board there are no bridges what so ever every thing is nice and neat what i would like to know are the possible components he may have damaged soldering the wire to the wrong side of the ressistor
i would be very thankfull for any info anybody can give to help retify his problem
thanks

Before you try to adjust anything, what brand of media are you using ?

I've had v7's that will boot sh*tty Princo disks. And v7's that don't like Ritek's. Seems like there's a lot of variation as to what a PS2 will read.

ps2 will not read original dvd's (games or films)

you can hear lasor clicking at the boot sequence then goes to insert ps2 medea disk

i am getting to the point where i'm looking at removing the mod and then retrying dvd medea

Yeah, sounds like a bad install.

Try removing the bios chip wires, P, O, N, M. Remove them off the mobo and the Messiah2.

Then see if originals will boot. You may have to remove Q, T, U, V, R & W also, but try the other 4 first.

If originals boot, then you know where the istallation went wrong.

His problem is definately the DVD controller. Check the points at the bottom of the board and make sure they are good and all match up to the correct point on the chip. People make mistakes on this all the time if they use the same color wire for the entire install. Also check points C and B on the top of the board.

Yeah, the DVD controller wires are tricky. I always solder them all first, then feed one at a time through the hole, labeling them as I go.

sorry guys i lied

my son has played on it for about 20 minuets with dvd game and it has crashed
i have tried re-booting and is going straight to insert ps2 medea
put a cd game in and it is booting straight away it's only the dvd's thats causing the problem
and it would seem it's after it's getting warm
because of the concern with the mixup on point (A) i think something has blown (but what)
hope you guy's can help me out

P.s some one at work told me sony do an exchange repair for £65.00 any body know if this correct
