This should answer your online question?
As far as the hard drive goes I don't know much on this all I know is that there is a Linux hard drive for the PS2, it will not allow you to do anything but run linux apps. Maybe someone else can help with this.

The hard drive was released in Japan but was yet to be released any where else, I think, at least not in the US.
