AVI Playback Problem

hi,

i have a film which has been transfered to my hard drive as an avi file. When i try to play it back with windows media player i get sound and no picture, when i try with powerdvd it does not recognise it.

Is there a dedicated avi player that i can use to play the film, or can anyone shed some light as to what i may have done wrong.

thanks

You don't have the correct codec installed. I recommend getting a divx player like the one you can get here.

To help you find out what codec were used to encode the avi in,
both video and audio download this excellent little program called
GSPOT.
It will tell you whether you have the codec's installed and identify the ones you will need to get if you haven't.

Here's the link.

Good. Didn't see the smilies at the end. Well it now supports Windows 98 and ME. It also allows you to preview the title set so you know what features yu are taking off. It has also improved some issues with episodic dvds but this still has some problems. It has also added support for more standalone dvd players. Good stuff.
