Pioneer A05
I know the pioneer A05 is great for burning playstation games, and im fairly close to purchasing one, but wanted to know if anyone has burned actual movies, and if so, can you make an identical copy that is exactly the same DVD quality, with menus and chapters and all the stuff that the original dvd has- I have been making VCD's in the past from DVD's and the quality is that of a VHS, not a DVD, without any menus or chapters like original DVD's have- chris

the A05 is capable of burning what you have mentioned, you obviously need the appropriate software - like dvdxcopy for example

It's a great drive. Search for tutorials on the net - there are loads - these will explain how to do them. DVD-X-Copy is supposed to be very good program but I have never used it but make sure you DO get the A05. Hope this helps...

I have one and have burnt 1:1 copies of movies. It works perfect w/ dvdXcopy (most notably LOTR). I've also been burning my PS2 games at max speed (2x, but the drive goes 4x - media thing), and i have never had a problem. Don't even need to verify... cuts down on the burning time by like %50 .
Very good burner, i recommend it ![]() btw: cd-rw = 16x burning.

They are basically the same except the Sony gives you the option to burn to +r/+rw. If you aren't going to use the +r/+rw option, there is really no point in spending the extra money for the Sony.

Im still failing to see what use/advantages +R/+RW has over -R/-RW??
is there any machine/console that uses only the + format?? |

There really isn't any. There are a few dvd players that only support +r/+rw dvd backups but that is about it. -r/-rw is much more widely used. You can see what media your dvd player can play here.

well.. price now plays a part, in australia, I can pick up a A05 for around $550/600 AUD, where as the Sony DRU500a is around $900 AUD...
in my opinion +R/RW isnt worth that much considering all ill use that format for is PS2 games, even then, my PS2 reads -R/RW as well... and probably down the track, as prices drop, and it turns out that +R/RW has something so esspecially good that everyone MUST have one, im sure i could pick up a seperate +R/RW burner..then ill have both types oh well...you know what they say, different strokes for different folks |
