"Red Screen of death" a good sign? PLEASE HELP

Sirs, Headly and I are having a hell of a time installing a mod chip in his ps2 version 4. The closest we have come to get it working is having the system play Regular PS2 games and DVDs fine, but when we tried a burnt game it gave us the red screen saying to insert proper media. Any thoughs people?

We were using Memorex brand DVD-Rs. We are pretty sure we just got lucky enough to get the system up and running to play normal games again Anyone that thinks this chip installation is easy has never done one before...Maybe Headly will chime in on this when he gets home.
