Verbatim. It cost more than others but works flawlessly.

If I remember correctly you have a v2 right? If so only use -r. The old ps2s don't like +r/+rw.

Not nessasarily big hap. That's what I thought at first. Verbatim discs are great don't get me wrong, but the games that I told you that didn't work were on verbatim, and then I reburned them on some different media and they seem to work great now. And they are much, much cheaper than the verbatims cost me...go figure. I've come to believe that it depends on the mod, but there are some "safe brands" that you almost can't go wrong with.

To put it simply, it is not just the media that causes backups to not boot etc. Its down to the program you use, burn speed, and the quality of your ps2.

I have NEVER seen anything below a version 5 have a problem with verbatim, Pioneer, and panasonic dvdrs. All are expensive but i have never had a 'bad burn' or any complaints. Especially when there are so many people having problems with laser intensive games such as gta:vice city. also a mint v2 usa machine was sent to me a few months back which would boot everything i put in, apart from dvd+r

I have ALWAYS had a 100% success rate using DVDR media so why change? (reminds me of history lessons about the gap between rails on the railways!!!)

I personally don't change my media unless i have to but i rate the following like this

Verbatim (100%)
Panasonic rf120's (100%)
Pioneer (90% - Sometimes funny on old machines when burnt at 2x)
NEO-TECH Gen 3(90%) - same comment as pioneer.

Hope this helps.

I can't explain why there are a handful of verbatims that don't want to work on a few Playstation 1 games for me. It puzzles me too. I had the same theory as you Jay, about not changing your media unless you have too, many of my games are backed-up on verbatim cd-rs. However like I said above, there were about a dozen of psx games that got "frozen" at the beginning. I was using clone cd for 1:1 back-ups but this did not solve my problem. I was told that the ps2 was not completely backwards compatible with all psx games.

The cdr's that I have now, I reburnt the games that didn't work and they booted fine. I'm not trying to scare anyone away from verbatim, it is a very very good brand for the ps2 because of the high reflectivity of the disc, which makes it easier for the ps2 to read. I'm just saying that use what works best for you. Verbatims worked great for me...until I ran into a problem. My yamaha burner has a really powerful laser so I am able to burn at 44x and still produce a working back-up. Oh and make sure that your original is clean before you try to burn it!!

I can't find most of the media that Jay suggested in my area so here is my rating scale.
For Cd-R's it all depends on the PS2. My apple chipped ps2 plays just about anything. Really can't go wrong with verbatim though.
For DVD-R's, TDK is good, but expensive, try white label princo's. You can buy them online relatively cheap. Bg will agree that the WHITE label princos are good.

There is also a sticky at the beginning of this forum that charlie explains media issues. :-)
