Chip Problems >> Oddness

Anyone experience anything like this?

old version 4 PS2 with a Messiah in it. Played everything, including Divx's with the PS2 reality media player.

Suddenly, it just stopped working (didn't bash it, didn't even move it).

Went back to the guy that did it, and I was told that a wire had come loose. Backed it to him, and he fixed it, and it came back to me.

Here's where it goes a little strange.

The PS2 Intro (when there isn't a disc in) loads up with an animation. The PS2 boots up but freezes on one of the blobs. The animation just doesn't do it's full cycle, but you can still push the x-button, and go in without a disc in the machine.

Also, it has stopped playing my Backup of the getaway, and Rachet and Clank, but it still plays Vice City Perfectly. BG music and all.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this??

I had this animation problem on my version 4 PS2 and had problems getting dvdr to boot. In the end I recalibrated the laser and it loads up fine, still get the blob instead of the swirly stuff on the boot up though. Just a characteristic of having a messiah fitted.

Have you used a different dvd media copying gta vice city than you did on rachett and clank??

No, same datasafe media oddly enough. I'll have to lookinto getting the laser recalibrated. I also always write at 1 x speed.

Ta for the reply BTW.

Is the animation completely frozen all the time? I had the same problem when i got my (PAL V4) chipped with a messiah, the only way i found to rectify the problem was to change to a different language via the 'System Config' screen, i.e. German or Italian. Switch the machine off for five seconds, turn it back on then go back to the 'System Config' and change the language back to English. Hopefully this should fix the problem as it did for me.

Also if your dvd media is 2 speed then you sould burn at two speed as if you burn at one speed you can overcook the write surface and then the ps2 has trouble reading it. Had lots of trouble with this a while back...

Regards.................

Hey guys, try this. I've done this on 2 version 4's one with messiah 1 with neo2.2 and it sorted the swirl problem out.

Go into the menu and go to change the time. Chances are it has the incorrect time and it appears stuck on 12oclock. (Even if not try this.)

Go to change the time and just keep your finger on up on the d pad. This causes/forces the time to change. Don't ask me why but on both machines this released the swirls and the time worked perfectly from then onwards.

Let me know how you get on!

No problem mate!
I've got no idea why this happens with version 4 machines. Strange! I know that it in no way effects the operation of the chip.

Glad to help!

Merry Christmas!

Well, that sorted out the menu Jay_83, nice one!

Just got to figure out why it wont play divx's and some of my old DVDR's that it used to play!

hmmmmm. If it used to play them you could:

1. try a lens cleaning disc on the laser.
2. try turning the power up on the laser.
3. buy a new laser head. they cost about £45.00.

sounds like your laser is on the way out but it could just be dirty so cleaning is always worth a try.

good luck.............
